R&D engineer (chemist)

GlucoSet is developing an innovative sensor technology that uses the optical interrogation of a glucose responsive polymer to continuously measure glucose and has recently done patient testing. A start-up of 16 full-time employees is working on product development and establishing a prototype manufacturing site in Trondheim, Norway.

We are now looking for a chemist who can help the development of our product as an R&D engineer. Your duties will depend on your prior experience, but industry experience is not required.

As an R&D engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of our proprietary glucose sensor. This role reports directly to the CTO.

Skill set

  • You are experienced with one or more of the following

    • Organic synthesis

    • Polymer chemistry

    • Sensor development

  • You have a track record of solving complex technical problem in chemistry

  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Prior medical device experience is appreciated and will affect the level of responsibility you are given when you join, but is not required.

Minimum requirements

  • Masters degree or PhD in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry (biochemistry is not sufficient)

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken (You do not need to understand Norwegian)

  • Living in/willing to relocate to Trondheim, Norway

About the company

GlucoSet is a spin-off from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and has offices and cleanroom in Trondheim, Norway. GlucoSet is developing a glucose monitoring system using a combination of optical fiber and smart materials. The monitoring of glucose in the hospital is crucial to reduce complications and lower costs in critically ill patients. No system exists so far capable of fulfilling the complex technical and regulatory requirements of such a device and requirements of the customer and user. The first product is expected to enter the market in 2026. Because GlucoSet is a startup, your work will have significant influence on the company.
